scarface

My first major injury occured this weekend when I fell into the desk. Like Wyn's previous encounter with a dangerous household item, I feel this event could have been prevented if only everything we owned was made of sponge.

birthday dinner

Mom and Dad wanted to take us somewhere extra special for our birthday dinner. So, needless to say, we went to The Diner.

Here I am providing the evening's entertainment. My Dizzy Gillespie impersonation is always a crowd pleaser.

happy birthday to us!

Don't we somehow look more mature today? Hmmmm. Now, why could that be. Maybe it's the shirts Grandma Betty got us? Or perhaps...IT'S BECAUSE WE'RE ONE YEAR OLD TODAY!

In addition to all the cool gifts Wyn and I got last weekend during our pre-birthday birthday celebration, we opened a few more today. Check out this activity cube Grandma and Grandpa Lipsey sent. It's got so many gizmos, we can actually play with it simultaneously without fighting! Now that's a birthday miracle.

And you'll never guess what Aunt Katherine sent. It's our first car! Woo! Wyn and I are really, really grateful for all of our gifts. We're so lucky to have such a generous family. Thanks everybody! Double hugs and kisses to you all. Love, Zak &Wyn

mad for madi

In honor of our upcoming birthday, Grandma Betty and Aunt Melissa came for a visit. And guess what? They brought our Cousin Madalin along so we could meet her for the first time. It was great! Here she is feeding us a gourmet breakfast of frozen waffles and peaches. Mmm, mmmm. You sure do know how to cook, Madi.

On Saturday we all went to the Shedd Aquarium. We saw lots of neat things, including Madi's favorite: starfish. Zak loved the dolphin show best of all. He danced to the music and clapped when the dolphins did their tricks. And me? My favorite thing at the aquarium was snoozing in Grandma Betty's arms.

On Sunday we visited the Chicago Children's Museum. Wowee, there's a lot to do there. While Madi was off doing big kid things, Zak and I hung out in a little play pond area. That's where I met this 15-month-old cutie. What can I say? She couldn't keep her hands off me.

Ahem. Anyway. So then Sunday night we opened birthday presents and played with Madi some more. She is so much fun!

As you can see, we had a great weekend with our family. And with Madi reading to us, playing with us, drawing us pictures and feeding us, we don't know what to do with ourselves now that she's gone back to Albuquerque. *Sigh.* We miss you, Madi, and we can't wait to see you again! That goes for you too, Grandma Betty and Aunt Melissa. We love you!

the results are in

The results from our twin zygosity DNA test came yesterday! Since I was absolutely spellbound and Wyn was otherwise occupied, Mom and Dad let me open them. Here they are (drumroll please):

Yippee! We knew it. Here are some facts about monozygotic twins:
  • While the rate of dizygotic (fraternal) twinning is about 21.9 per 1,000 births in the U.S., there are only 4 sets of monozygotic (identical) twins per 1,000 births.
  • The monozygotic birth rate is consistent throughout the world and does not appear to share any of the known influences for dizygotic twinning (maternal age, genetic and racial predisposition, infertility treatments, etc.). So...even though Mom has a history of twins in her family and she was no spring chicken when she had us at 34, the fact that we're twins is, statistically speaking, a random miracle.
  • Although Wyn and I are genetically the same (originating from a single fertilized egg) and will always be similar in physical appearance, intellectual abilities, temperament and so on, we still have our own personalities and differences.
Thanks to everyone who voted in our online poll. Incredibly, you all got it right!

reading is fundamental

Sometimes we get tired of hearing Mom and Dad read to us. That's when we take matters into our own hands. Here, I've selected one of the finest examples of English literature ever published: Found You, Little Wombat! Zak chose the existential classic Yummy Yucky, which contains the immortal lines, "Spaghetti is yummy. Worms are yucky." Truly profound stuff.

peek-a-boo

Zak just asked me to post this sickeningly adorable picture of him. You owe me, buddy, especially after this.
