a visit from ba-nah betty

Zak and I received a wonderful treat last weekend: Grandma Betty came to visit! Or, as she is now known, Ba-Nah. Never mind that ba-nah is also how we say banana. We like Ba-Nah much more than we like ba-nahs. Which is quite a bit, by the way. Anyhow, we treated her to a fancy dinner at Russell's Sunday night, where we amazed her with our man-size appetites.

Still hopped up on barbeque sauce when we got home, we stripped off our shirts and ran around like maniacs for about an hour. Ba-Nah seemed to enjoy the show and even got in on the action (although she chose to keep her shirt on, as did Daddy).

Thanks for coming to see us, Ba-Nah. We love you soooooo much. Hug!

taking the plunge

It was a monumental day. We went to our first session of Playschool, which is an hour-and-a-half, twice-a-week intro to preschool, or at the very least a chance to play with about 12 other kids without any parents around. And guess what? We did really well! Our teacher said we didn't cry at all when Mom left. And when she came to pick us up it wasn't even that big of a deal. It was like, oh, hey, you. It probably helps that we have each other there. Anyway, next week we're on spring break (thinkin' about hoofin' it down to Padre...), but we'll return after that, hopefully with big smiles on our faces. Sigh. We're growing up so fast!

(This picture is a leftover from last weekend, but we thought it fit today's event quite well.)

the world according to me

Here's something you may not know: the second-to-last thing of anything is always "nine." For example, the second-to-last stair is number nine. And the second-to-last slice of banana. And the second-to-last block in a stack of blocks. If you must know why, it's because the last thing of anything is...wait for it..."TEN!" And of course the number ten is always worth a cheer and a hearty round of applause. So, without fail several times a day I get to exclaim, "nine...TEN!! Yeah!!!!!"

What a wonderful, perfect world we live in. Don't you agree?

parking it

This weekend Mom and Dad took us to one of our favorite tot lots for some good old-fashioned monkeying around.

Here I am, suddenly realizing there's a big slide behind me.

Here's Wyn looking out the little window on the jungle gym, also known as the "giant petri dish o' germs."

Here's Wyn thinking that upon further reflection, perhaps he shouldn't have put his hands all over the "giant petri dish o' germs."

And here I am preparing myself for a fabulous slide ride. Weeeeee!

weather report

Some of you may be aware that Wyn and I were feeling under the weather all last week. It was not pretty. Not at all. But Saturday the weather shifted, both literally and figuratively, and we played outside for a bit. It felt great.

The springlike temperatures triggered a clothes shopping reaction in Mom (apparently it's genetic...GRANDMA BETTY!). Promptly thereafter, it turned cold again. I sure had a good time trying on my new threads though.

inner circles

Zak and I are really into circles these days. Here's how I'm exploring the concept.

And here is Zak's take. My brother likes to use our new markers to draw circles over and over, chanting "circle, circle, circle" the whole time. (I've been a little less productive with the markers. Every time Mom hands me one, all I want to do is figure out how to get the cap on and off. What does that say about my personality versus Zak's? Hmmmm...)

training day

Last Saturday Mom and Dad took us for our first ride on the El. That's right, a real live train! We took the Green Line downtown and loved every minute of it. Especially the part where the disembodied voice kept repeating "Doors. Closing."

Here I am hanging out with Daddy and watching the city go by. On our ride home we met a fellow twin who is 48 years old. He informed us that since Wyn and I are Pisces twins, we're going to "get bling" when we grow up. Nice to know. Anyway, we can't wait for our next mass transit commute!
